Began from an idea...pursued from a passion for barbeque...found a way of life! Barbeque at the Beach 2011 is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned BBQ competition and music fest. What is “barbeque?” If you have in mind a sauce and maybe some pork and ribs, you are part way there! Joining us will be teams competing from all over North America, sharing their knowledge and passion for barbeque through demonstrations open to the public. Are you an aspiring backyard griller? Come and compete in our “Anyone can compete grilling competition” on your own grill.
The 2011 event will include 3 separate competitions throughout the weekend, with cash prizes:
- Open Grilling (Saturday): to include 3 categories - Burger, Pizza, and Dessert. The Open Grilling competition will be judged using the KCBS procedure, but involving a mix of KCBS and celebrity judges.
OPEN GRILLING RULES PDF HERE - People's Choice Charity Fundraiser (Saturday): category - Pulled Pork. Teams will be assigned to heats of up to 6 teams, paired with a participating charity, and provided with meat to prepare and serve to the public in aluminum steam trays. The public will buy tickets from the event and receive all of the samples from one heat per ticket, served in a half-dozen egg carton. Winners will be determined by public balloting. One-third of the funds raised will be allotted to the competition prize pool, one-third to participating charities, and one-third to cover the cost of the event. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winner from each heat, a reserve grand champion, and a grand champion.
- Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Sanctioned (Sunday): to include 4 categories - Ribs, Chicken, Pork, and Brisket. The KCBS competition will be judged following all KCBS rules and regulations.
