Author to Appear at Local Cave Day Event

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, PA — Four standout natural attractions in Huntingdon County are gaining statewide recognition in a newly released guide highlighting Pennsylvania’s most remarkable outdoor destinations. Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks, Balanced Rock at Trough Creek State Park, Ridenour and Hawn's Overlooks at Raystown Lake, and Thousand Steps Viewpoint along the Standing Stone Trail are among the featured locations, showcasing the county’s diverse and memorable experiences.

The book, written by Pennsylvania-based author Tory Mather, highlights destinations across the state that offer unique opportunities for exploration, from scenic overlooks to hidden natural formations. Huntingdon County’s inclusion underscores its reputation as a place where visitors can discover striking landscapes and rewarding outdoor adventures.

The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau (HCVB) played a key role in connecting the author with the region. In September 2024, HCVB hosted Mather for a three-day visit, curating an itinerary that highlighted a range of outdoor experiences across the county. The thoughtfully planned visit introduced her to several notable locations, including the four sites that were ultimately selected for inclusion in the book.

From the underground beauty of Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks to the gravity-defying presence of Balanced Rock at Trough Creek State Park, each site reflects a different facet of the region’s natural appeal. Panoramic views await at Ridenour and Hawn's Overlooks at Raystown Lake, while the climb to the Thousand Steps Viewpoint along the Standing Stone Trail offers a rewarding perspective for those seeking a more active experience.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Tory Mather in person during a special appearance at Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks on June 6, 2026, as part of the site’s annual Cave Day celebration. The event will include a book signing, giving attendees a chance to connect with the author and learn more about her exploration of Pennsylvania’s natural landscapes.

Huntingdon County continues to inspire travelers to experience its scenic beauty firsthand. Recognition in this new publication reinforces the county’s place as a destination for discovery, offering everything from peaceful overlooks to unforgettable underground adventures.
