Broad Top Area Coal Miners Museum
704 S Main St, Robertsdale, PA 16674
Transition from natural caves to the man-made underworld. This museum preserves the gritty history of the "Black Gold" rush on the Broad Top Mountain. Through authentic artifacts, maps, and local stories, you’ll learn about the life of the miners who spent their days in the dark, carving out a living beneath the soil. It’s a moving tribute to the human endurance required to fuel the industrial revolution.

Lincoln Caverns & Whisper Rocks
7703 William Penn Hwy, Huntingdon, PA 16652
Twice the adventure! This stop features two distinct cave systems, each with its own personality. Explore Lincoln Caverns, discovered during the construction of Route 22 in 1930, and Whisper Rocks, a separate cavern filled with delicate "crystals" and spectacular formations. Their interpretive tours are famous for explaining the "why" behind the rocks, making you feel like a true geologist by the time you emerge.

Penn's Cave & Wildlife Park
222 Penn's Cave Rd, Centre Hall, PA 16828
Experience America’s only all-water cavern and a true "hidden gem" of the Commonwealth. Instead of a walking path, you’ll board a flat-bottom boat to glide through lighted limestone passages. As you drift over the crystal-clear water, you’ll see massive flowstone cascades and shimmering stalactites that have been thousands of years in the making. It’s a serene, eerie and unforgettable way to see the Earth from the inside out.

The Old PA Pike Trail
West Trailhead: XQXC+XQF Breezewood, PA 15533
East Trailhead: 3346 Pump Station Rd, Waterfall, PA 16689
Step onto a "highway of the future" that time forgot. This 8.5-mile section of the original Pennsylvania Turnpike was bypassed in 1968 and has since become a reclaimed wonder for hikers and cyclists. The highlights are the Sideling Hill and Rays Hill Tunnels, massive concrete bores over a mile long that cut straight through the mountains. Walking through these silent, dark tunnels where millions of cars once roared is a hauntingly beautiful experience in modern ruins.

Tytoona Cave Preserve
Morrow Rd, Tyrone, PA 16686
For those who want a raw, unpolished encounter with the subterranean world, Tytoona is a must. This "wild" cave features a massive, 40-foot-high entrance that swallows a mountain stream. Unlike the commercial caverns, there are no paved paths or electric lights here! Just a rugged limestone portal where you can witness the sheer power of natural erosion and geology in its most authentic state.
A permit is required to enter Tytoona. Permits can be requested online at no cost here
