Family Fun at Home
We’re sure some of you would much rather stay home and celebrate with just your family. Fortunately, there is always the option of buying consumer fireworks. Here’s a few tips to make sure you stay safe during your family celebration.
-
Never let young children handle the fireworks and older children should only do so under adult supervision
-
Do not be the one handling the fireworks if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
-
Only use them away from people, houses and flammable materials
-
Take the fireworks out of the container before lighting them
-
Keep the fireworks aimed where they belong: the sky
-
Only light one device at a time and stay at a safe distance during the detonation
-
Do not attempt to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
-
Keep a bucket of water on hand to douse fireworks that don’t go off or in case of fire
-
Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
-
Never use illegal fireworks
The biggest piece of advice is that if you don’t feel confident handling fireworks, leave it to the professionals!
